Jan Gan Man English Secondary School celebrated Ashadi Ekadashi on July 7, 2025, with a special program designed to educate students about the cultural and spiritual significance of this important festival. The event was a vibrant and enriching experience, highlighting the traditions and values associated with the Varkari Sampradaya.
Date: July 7, 2025
Time: 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Location: School Assembly Ground
Conducted by: School faculty and students
The primary objective of the celebration was to immerse students in the traditions of Ashadi Ekadashi and foster an appreciation for their cultural heritage. The session aimed to:
Explain the historical and spiritual significance of the festival.
Introduce the tradition of the 'Dindi' (pilgrimage procession) to Pandharpur.
Educate students about the values of devotion, humility, and community spirit.
Showcase the traditional music and chants associated with the festival.
The celebration began with a special assembly on the school ground. The program included a brief speech by a faculty member explaining the legend of Ashadi Ekadashi and the Wari tradition. Students then performed devotional songs (bhajans) dedicated to Lord Vitthal.
A highlight of the event was a symbolic 'Dindi' procession held within the school premises. Students, dressed in traditional attire, carried palanquins and chanted hymns, recreating the atmosphere of the actual pilgrimage. This activity was highly engaging and gave students a first-hand experience of the festival's community spirit. The event concluded with the distribution of traditional prasad.
The Ashadi Ekadashi celebration was a meaningful and educational experience. Students learned about the deep cultural roots of the festival and the importance of preserving traditions. The symbolic Dindi procession, in particular, left a lasting impression, teaching them about devotion, unity, and the joy of collective celebration.
The Ashadi Ekadashi celebration was a great success, effectively blending cultural education with a hands-on experience. The event was a wonderful way to connect students with their heritage and instill a sense of pride in our traditions. We look forward to continuing such cultural initiatives in the future.
