Host Institution: Jan Gan Man English Secondary School
Affiliation: CBSE
Theme: #Plant4Mother – Nurturing Nature, Honoring Mothers
In response to the nationwide call by the CBSE and the Ministry of Education, Jan Gan Man English Secondary School proudly organized the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" initiative. This campaign was not merely a plantation drive; it was an emotional and environmental movement that linked the nurturing spirit of a mother with our responsibility toward Mother Earth.
At Jan Gan Man, we integrated this initiative into our core values:
Encouragement: We motivated students to see environmental care as a personal tribute to their mothers, making the act of planting a sapling a gesture of gratitude and love.
Aspiration: By participating in a national movement, our students felt a sense of belonging to a larger goal—shaping a greener and more sustainable India.
Our school took several creative steps to ensure the initiative was impactful and educational:
The Symbolic Plantation: The event began with our Principal, teachers, and student representatives planting indigenous saplings (such as Neem and Ashoka) in the school’s "Heritage Garden."
Digital Recognition: Following CBSE guidelines, students participated in the "Selfie with Sapling" challenge. They uploaded photos with their mothers and their newly planted trees to the official portal, earning E-Certificates that recognized them as "Green Guardians."
Health & Environment Synergy: Tying in with our health awareness goals, students chose to plant "Medicinal Mothers"—herbs and fruit-bearing trees like Amla and Tulsi—learning about their health benefits during the process.
The "Nurture Pledge": Every student took a solemn oath not just to plant, but to nurture their sapling until it becomes a self-sustaining tree, mirroring the lifelong support a mother provides.
To make the learning holistic, we moved beyond the soil:
Creative Expressions: Students participated in a "Poster Making & Poetry" session titled “My Mother, My Earth,” where they expressed the similarities between the two life-givers.
Eco-Awareness: Teachers conducted sessions on Mission LiFE, explaining how small actions—like planting a single tree—contribute to the global fight against climate change.
The "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" drive at Jan Gan Man English Secondary School was a resounding success. It successfully bridged the gap between emotional values and environmental science. Through this initiative, our students have grown not just in their knowledge of nature, but in their character as responsible, empathetic citizens of the world.
"A tree planted today is a legacy for tomorrow, dedicated to the one who gave us our today—our Mothers."
