Report on the Guru Pournima Inter-School Chess Competition

Introduction: On the auspicious occasion of Guru Pournima, the J.M.F. Education Society successfully organized an inter-school chess competition on July 23, 2025. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from students, with boys and girls participating in separate 'A' and 'B' groups, respectively.

Inaugural Ceremony and Dignitaries: The competition began with an inaugural ceremony. The proceedings commenced with Saraswati Puja and the worship of Maharshi Veda Vyasa, performed by the institute's founder and chairman, Dr. Rajkumar Kolhe, founding secretary, Dr. Prerana Kolhe, chess competition judge, Mr. Saharsh Shashikant Soman, and other dignitaries. The day also marked the birth anniversary of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, and his portrait was also paid tribute. Following this, Shreya Hadwale, a student from the fifth standard, delivered an impactful speech about Tilak. The chess competition officially began after a welcome and felicitation ceremony for all the dignitaries. The entire event was anchored by student Iva Shaw.

Competition Format: The competition not only provided students with an opportunity to showcase their intelligence but also taught them the importance of strategic thinking and concentration. The competitors participated with great discipline and sportsmanship in every game.

Conclusion: The chess competition, held on July 23, 2025, was a great success. It gave students a platform to showcase their latent skills and contributed to their holistic development.
