School Name: Jan Gan Man English Secondary School
Date of Event: February 28, 2026
Theme: "Science for a Sustainable Future"
On February 28, 2026, Jan Gan Man English Secondary School organized a vibrant program to celebrate National Science Day. The event was held to honor the discovery of the Raman Effect by the great Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman and to foster a scientific temper among the students through the performing arts.
The ceremony began at 10:00 AM with the lighting of the lamp by the Secretary of JMF, Principal and the Science faculty. A beautiful floral tribute was offered to the portrait of Sir C.V. Raman. The Principal addressed the assembly, reminding everyone that science is not just in textbooks, but in every breath we take and every technology we use.
Instead of the traditional exhibition, this year the school focused on communicating scientific concepts through stage performances:
Keynote Speech on "The Raman Effect": A student from Class 8 delivered an insightful speech on the life of Sir C.V. Raman. The speech explained the physics behind the scattering of light.
The student used a simple prism and laser pointer to demonstrate how light behaves, making the complex formula for Raman scattering easy to understand:
Science Skit – "The War Against Superstition": Students of Grade 8 performed a thought-provoking skit. The play depicted a village where a "scientist" uses logic and chemistry to debunk common superstitions and "magic tricks" performed by fraudsters. It was both humorous and educational, emphasizing the importance of a rational mind.
Science Fusion Dance: The highlight of the day was a unique "Science Fusion" dance performed by the secondary section. Using LED props and rhythmic movements, the students choreographed a routine that represented the Structure of an Atom and the Double Helix of DNA. The synchronization symbolized the harmony of the universe and the laws of physics.
The program concluded with the National Anthem. The day succeeded in showing that science can be creative, expressive, and fun. It left the students inspired to look at the world through a lens of curiosity and evidence.
